Project Overview

Bring the story of Bikkurim to life with a hands-on engineering build! In this kit, kids create their own pulley challenge inspired by the journey of bringing first fruits. As they build, test, and redesign, they’ll explore how simple machines can help lift and move a load—while connecting to the meaning of this special mitzvah.

What kids will do
Build a working pulley system, attach a basket or load, and test how their design lifts and moves. Kids can experiment, improve their setup, and take on extra challenges to see what works best.

Why families love it
This kit blends building, problem-solving, and Jewish learning in a way that feels interactive and exciting. It’s a creative way to explore Shavuot themes through real engineering thinking.

Technical Specifications

  • Material Precision Laser-Cut Plywood & Mixed-Media Hardware
  • Dimensions Standard Scale
  • Difficulty 7-12 years
  • Process Laser-Cut & Hand-Finished

Science Log

Mission: Master the Lift!

Ever wonder how a tiny pull can lift a whole basket of fruit? That is the power of Mechanical Advantage!

  • The Physics: By using a pulley, we change the direction of your pull. Instead of lifting up, you pull down, letting gravity help you do the hard work!
  • Engineering Secret: Look closely at the "friction-fit" joints. We designed these to snap together perfectly without a single drop of glue—just like a real interlocking structure!
  • Makerspace Fact: These parts were carved with a high-precision laser at a real makerspace to make sure every gear tooth fits exactly where it should.

Torah Sparks

Mission: The Ascent of Gratitude!

In the times of the Temple, the Bikkurim (First Fruits) weren't just carried—they were celebrated!

  • The "Aha!" Moment: Just as our pulley lifts the basket higher and higher, the Mitzvah of Bikkurim lifts our daily hard work and turns it into a thank-you note to Hashem.
  • Heart Power: We call this Hakarat HaTov—which means "Recognizing the Good." When you turn the handle, think about all the sunshine and water it took to grow the fruit in your basket!
  • Parsha Connection: Follow the journey from a tiny seed in the soil to the heights of the Altar in Jerusalem.

Builder's Tips

Mission: Pro-Builder Status!

Every great engineer has a few tricks up their sleeve to make their machines run perfectly.

  • The Silky-Smooth Move: If your axle feels a little tight, give it a light "massage" with a piece of sandpaper. A smooth axle means a lightning-fast lift!
  • Structural Check: Notice the A-frame shape of the supports? Engineers use that same triangle logic to build giant bridges and skyscrapers because it's the strongest shape in the world!
  • Eco-Logic: Your kit is made from sustainably sourced birch wood—strong enough for a master builder and kind to the planet.
